Marvellous Venetian Patera in Istrian marble. Provenance Venice, private collection. This is a circular ornamental bas-relief typical of the Venetian lagoon, which traces and imitates the subjects of the earlier Veneto-Byzantine period. This patera in particular depicts two zoomorphic-type subjects (a process of modification of the normal shape of a plant organism caused by infection by a parasite or animal symbiont), but patera with phytomorphic subjects with floral and vegetable themes and patera with geometric representations are also found. The patera is a very common item in the Venetian area, peculiar and suggestive. Perfect when hung on a wall or resting on a tripod. Medium-sized, proportionate. The marble is elegant, Istrian marble, a classic marble much used in Venice because of its great strength. An exclusive and rare work. It is in excellent condition, undamaged. Shipping worldwide.
